Jason is the youngest Black professor in Cambridge’s history. Rightwing newspapers are trying to smear him with fake accusations of plagiarism. We can’t let them. Stand up to their hate and division by adding your name.
We, the undersigned, are appalled by the sustained and malicious attacks on the academic integrity of Professor Jason Arday.
Entirely false allegations of plagiarism were made against Professor Arday and referred to two universities. Investigations have found no evidence whatsoever of wrongdoing. The relevant academic journals also found no basis for the claims.
Yet despite these unequivocal findings, rightwing media have attempted to smear Professor Arday’s reputation and undermine his career. That should concern everyone who believes in academic freedom, fairness and due process.

Part of the reason for so much of the tension and frustration in politics is they think everyone elese is stupid. This is not only on the left, they will make ludicrious claims, make up total nonsense then try to bluster their way out of it hoping to pull enough of their supports. See Farage and his financial issues, the SNP and their caravan of embezzelment and here both trying to claim Ardy is being attacked because everyone is racist then changing their messaging midway through a petition.
They cannot hold up their hands and say “yeah this was a clusterf ck on our side, we need to be honest”
Everything is mired in trying to bullshit their way out. Every single point in politics is turned into a battle for the truth. Trump is not the outlier just the best at it.
Every single step forward will be drowned in culture war noise to try to derail the criticism by Ardys defenders.

Supporting Professor Jason Arday against racial harassment
I stand in solidarity with Professor Jason Arday, a respected scholar who has been subjected to targeted racial harassment.
This serves as a reminder that scholars from historically marginalised backgrounds continue to face disproportionate scrutiny and hostility. If we are serious about equity, diversity, and inclusion, this is the moment to put those values into practice, not just discuss them in theory.
Having heard Professor Arday speak, I have great respect for his journey, scholarship, and commitment to broadening representation within academia. His experiences also highlight the importance of recognising intersectional identities, including ethnicity and neurodiversity, which are too often overlooked.
I support calls for an end to the harassment directed towards Professor Arday and encourage colleagues and EDI allies to stand against discrimination wherever it occurs. Decolonisation in practice means supporting and protecting voices that have historically been marginalised.

LEADING CAMPAIGNERS, politicians and campaigners have signed a public letter backing Cambridge professor Jason Arday after describing plagiarism allegations against him as a “malicious” right-wing smear campaign, despite two universities and academic journals clearing him of any wrongdoing.
The letter, coordinated by the Good Law Project, has attracted support from prominent figures including Lord Simon Woolley, Professor Dame Ijeoma Uchegbu, Sonia Alleyne, Professor Kehinde Andrews, Misan Harriman, Daniel Kebede, Sir Patrick Vernon, Lord Paul Boateng, John McDonnell MP, Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP, Clive Lewis MP, Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu and The Voice columnist Lester Holloway.
“Malicious attacks” condemned
The signatories say they are “appalled by the sustained and malicious attacks on the academic integrity of Professor Jason Arday”.
