Spionage per 5€-Postkarte
Sie haben ein Problem.
Neulich gab es ja schon den Bericht, dass ein Flugzeugträger geortet werden konnte, weil ein Offizier auf dem Flugdeck joggen ging, dabei eine Smartwatch trug und die Smartwatch sein Position automatisch auf eine Webseite hochlud – was dann so seltsame Kringel ergab, weil sich das Schiff bewegte und er bei seinen Runden um das Flugdeck mal mit, mal gegen die Fahrrichtung lief.
Das war aber eigene Blödheit der Besatzung. Das haben die selbst verbockt.
Zypern meldet, dass eine niederländische Fregatte vor Zypern geortet werden konnte, indem jemand eine Postkarte an sie geschickt habe.

A Bluetooth tracking device which was posted to a Dutch frigate. deployed to the waters off Cyprus after the island was hit by an Iranian-made drone last month, allowed it to be tracked remotely for days on end.
Dutch television channel Omroep Gelderland reported that a device worth around €5 was attached to a postcard which was posted to the ship using the Dutch military’s postal service, thus allowing the sender to track its movements remotely.
The ship, named the HNLMS Evertsen, had been deployed to the waters off Cyprus as part of the French aircraft carrier the Charles de Gaulle’s carrier strike group, and was sent to the region over a month ago.
According to Omroep Gelderland, the device which was sent to it “is normally intended for finding your keys, for example”.
It explained that the device was sent from the Netherlands using the Dutch military’s postal service, and was transported via the Niewe Haven naval base in the province of North Holland to Eindhoven airport, from whence it flew to Crete.
Once in Crete, the device was transported to the port of Heraklion, where it was taken aboard the HNLMS Evertsen, which had docked in the port late last month.
The ship left Heraklion on the morning of March 27, with the device tracking its location until it arrived off the coast of Cyprus on March 28, at which point the device went permanently offline.
A Dutch defence ministry spokesperson told Omroep Gelderland that “adjustments have since been made” in response to “this incident”, and that now, it is forbidden to send a greetings card containing batteries to Dutch warships.
So hunderprozentig klar ist mir das nicht. Das muss wohl, sie weisen ja auf den Schlüsselfinder hin, eins von diesen Devices gewesen sein, die als Plagiate der Apple AirTags aufgekommen sind. Man konnte die mal bei Aldi kaufen. Auf Zypern gibt es die für ca. 8 Euro bei Jumbo. Im Chinaversand auch billiger, da könnte das mit den 5 Euro durchaus hinkommen. Aber alle, die ich bisher gesehen habe, waren zu dick, um als Postkarte durchzugehen. Die würden abreißen oder blockiert werden. Was aber am grundsätzlichen Problem nichts ändern, denn als Brief gingen sie durch.
Dabei sind das nicht einmal eigenständige Tracker, denn die haben keinen GPS-Empfänger, sondern schreien nur per Bluetooth „An alle iPhones, die mich hören, meldet mal Eure Position an …“. Womit, genau betrachtet, nicht die Bluetooth-Tracker, sondern die iPhones das Spionagegerät sind, die deren Signale auffangen und verarbeiten. Denn nicht der Tracker, sondern das iPhone meldet „Tracker Nr. 123456 ist an der Position …“.
Damit haben sie ein grundsätzliches Problem, denn so ein Tracker könnte auch in jeder Gemüsekiste oder in der Packung Klopapier lauern, die sie an Bord nehmen.
Die Konsequenz wäre, Smartphones, Tablets und ggf. auch MacBooks zu verbieten, die derartige Spionage betreiben. Da es sich bei Apple aber um ein amerikanisches Unternehmen handelt, sollten die Amerikaner das durchaus auch so hinbekommen, dass die das nicht mehr machen.
