Der Iran betont die herzlichen Beziehungen zu Zypern.

Was erstaunlich ist, denn noch kürzlich hatte die – vom Iran gesteuerte – Hisbollah-Miliz (besonders im Juni 2024) gedroht, Zypern zu bombardieren, wenn es Israel als Rückzugsort dient.

Dagegen heute:

Airspace open, Greek jets deployed, after ‘suspicious objects’ spotted in skies

Cypriot airspace remains open on Wednesday after the sighting of “suspicious objects” in the skies above Lebanon which were believed to have been headed in the direction of the island, with Greek fighter jets having been deployed to deal with the threat.

On Wednesday morning, a transport ministry spokesperson told the Cyprus Mail that contrary to earlier media reports, Cyprus’ airspace remained open despite the threat.

Later, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis wrote in a post on social media that “the airspace of the Republic of Cyprus was not closed at any time”.

It is believed that the drones were Iranian-made Shahed drones – the same model as that which had hit the runway at the United Kingdom’s Akrotiri air force base on Monday.

Shahed drones are one-way attack drones and have been previously used both in Iranian strikes on Israel and by the Russian military during its war with Ukraine.

The Greek jets returned to Paphos shortly before 11am, with media reports stating that the drones had been located around 120 nautical miles off the coast of Larnaca when they were intercepted.

Was man da gerade so unter „Herzliches Verhältnis“ versteht.

A ballistic missile fired from Iran was intercepted by Turkish anti-missile infrastructure in the eastern Mediterranean, the Turkish defence ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry said that it had been “determined that the ordnance fell in the Dortyol district of the Hatay province” of Turkey, which is located northeast of Cyprus’ Karpas peninsula.

If it is determined that Turkey was the missile’s intended target, it will be the first time Turkey has been fired at since strikes began in the Middle East at the weekend, and could see Nato’s second-largest standing army become a party to an already widening conflict.

Wenn der Iran Raketen auf die Türkei abfeuert … ist die Türkei nicht in der NATO? Ist damit nicht ein NATO-Land angegriffen?

Griechen, Franzosen, angeblich auch Deutsche sind da jetzt wohl auch mit im Boot.

Auf der anderen Seite hat wohl Nordkorea schon dem Iran militärische Unterstützung und Waffenlieferungen angeboten. Und wie sich die Chinesen verhalten, ist wohl auch noch offen.
